Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather My Equipment
First, I gather all my equipment together on the table: my mixing bowl, measuring cups, measuring spoons, mortar and pestle, scented oils, dried herbs and flowers, cinnamon sticks, cloves, a storage jar, a scoop or spoon, and some decorative bowls. I put on my gloves because this is going to be a fun, aromatic adventure!
Step 2: Choose My Scents
Next, I decide on the scents I want for my seasonal potpourri. I dig through my collection of dried herbs and flowers. Maybe I’ll use lavender, rose petals, and some dried orange peels for a vibrant mix. My senses are already tingling with anticipation!
Step 3: Measure the Ingredients
Using my measuring cups and spoons, I measure out equal parts of each dried herb and flower. I think I’ll go for 1 cup of lavender, 1 cup of rose petals, and 1/2 cup of orange peels. I toss them into my mixing bowl, enjoying the colorful sight!
Step 4: Add Spices
Now it’s time to add some spices! I grab my cinnamon sticks and cloves. I use my measuring spoons to add 2 tablespoons of cinnamon sticks and 1 tablespoon of whole cloves to the mix. The warm, cozy aromas are already starting to fill the air.
Step 5: Crush Dried Ingredients
To release even more aromatic oils, I take a few dried herbs and flowers and place them in my mortar. Using the pestle, I gently crush them. This will enhance the fragrance of my potpourri!
Step 6: Mix it All Together
With all the crushed and whole ingredients in the mixing bowl, I take my hands (still gloved!) and mix everything together thoroughly. I enjoy the texture of the materials and the layering of scents.
Step 7: Add Scented Oils
To enhance the aroma, I’ll add some scented oils. I choose a few drops of vanilla and orange essential oils. I drizzle about 10 drops of each over my mix and toss it again to ensure it is well distributed. The fragrance is heavenly!
Step 8: Store the Potpourri
Once I’m satisfied with my mix, I use my scoop to transfer it into the storage jar. I place the lid on tightly to keep the scents fresh. I can hardly wait to use it!
Step 9: Decorate with it
Finally, I fill a decorative bowl with the leftover potpourri and place it in my living room. It brightens up the space and fills the air with a delightful fragrance that welcomes anyone who walks in!
Step 10: Enjoy the Aromas
I sit back, relax, and enjoy the inviting aroma of my handmade seasonal potpourri. It’s not just a scent; it’s a little piece of joy I crafted myself!
